Essex Chordsmen has been proudly providing high quality singing in the Essex area and London for many years. We are a friendly, accommodating chorus, choir, and would love you to come to our rehearsals in Galleywood, Chelmsford.
WHAT WE DO
Partly due to the pandemic, our member numbers have reduced dramatically and we are urgently seeking new members from both male and female. Although all voice parts are welcome we need people that can reach the higher notes, (Tenor).
Essex Chordsmen is open to anyone who wishes to sing in a supportive, friendly environment. There is no requirement to be able to read music and all learning material is provided. We sing without instruments or amplification - just the purity of the human voice.
We offer performances which are tailored to suit your event. We can create a unique package of entertainment for weddings, birthdays, presentation evenings, dinners.

BARBERSHOP SINGING
The Barbershop style of singing started in the early 20th century in America where people waiting for haircuts would sing together to pass the time.
The music is 4-part, a cappella, close harmony with a light, informal style.
One unique aspect of barbershop is the global community - there are over 30,000 registered barbershop singers in the world, and all are encouraged to learn a small set of songs called "Polecats". This means that wherever you go, you can join in with any other barbershop group.
